Softball’s Miles Nabs Fourth MAC Pitcher of the Week Honor
May 01, 2018 | Softball
CLEVELAND, Ohio - - Ball State softball junior starting pitcher Aeshia Miles has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time this season.
The Lawrenceville, Georgia, native turned in another dominating effort in the circle at Eastern Michigan, holding the Eagles to a .128 batting average and one run over 11.0 innings of work for a 0.64 ERA. She also struck out 12 batters while yielding just one walk.
"It was really nice to see Aeshia come out and pitch like she did at Eastern Michigan," head coach Megan Ciolli Bartlett said. "She is a fierce competitor and it showed in her performances against the Eagles. She is settling in on the mound and trusting her spin more, which is going to be key in us winning a championship."
In last Friday's series opener, Miles limited the EMU offense to just one hit over her six innings of work. She was on pace to throw her second no-hitter of the season until a two-out error in the sixth extended the inning, with the next batter recording the Eagles' lone hit of the game. Miles also chalked up eight strikeouts in the game and did not issue a single walk.
In last Saturday's series finale, Miles picked up the complete game victory, holding the EMU offense to four hits and one run in the 9-1 (5) win. She struck out four batters on her way to her 17th victory of the year.
With her 12 strikeouts on the weekend, Miles raised her season total to 138 which is the 16th-best single season total in program history. In addition, her 17 pitching rank 11th on Ball State's single season charts.
Miles and the Ball State softball team close the 2018 regular season this weekend with a three-game series at Toledo. The Cardinals and Rockets are scheduled to play a single game Friday (3 p.m.) and a doubleheader Saturday (1 p.m.).
