Twelve More Season Bests Set at Men’s Swim and Dive MAC Championships

OXFORD, Ohio –The Ball State men's swimming and diving team continued action at the Mid-American Conference Championships Friday in Oxford, Ohio. The Cardinals have 135 points through three days.
Ball State had 12 more season best times in the events today, nine of which were personal bests. The Cardinals had seven swimmers and two divers compete in the finals Friday night.
"We had more season and personal bests today, which is always great to see," head coach Bob Thomas said. "We are looking forward to an even better day tomorrow."
In the 400 IM, which was the first event of the night, Arnas Maciunas earned the 16th spot with a final time of 4:14.86. The next event was the 100 butterfly which saw action by two Ball State swimmers. Alex Tuthill and Ben Andrew finished 14th and 15th respectively. Tuthill finished with a time of 49.49 while Andrew touched the wall at 49.72.
Three Cardinals competed in the 100 breaststroke. Cullen Tyler earned the 11th place spot after posting a final time of 56.36. Zach Reichle marked a time of 57.08 to earn 14th place. Zach Toman added points to the board with his 16th place finish in the event (58.53).
The fifth event of the day was the 100 backstroke. Logan Ackley was the lone Cardinals competing in that event, earning 15th (50.74).
The Cardinals earned the sixth place spot in the 400 medley relay. Ackley, Tyler, Tuthill and Andrew came together to post a final time of 3:24.22.
On the diving board, Ball State had two divers competing in the evening portion of the 3-meter dive. Sean Wolfe was able to earn the fifth place spot after posting a score of 242.80. Gabe Dean finished in the eighth spot with a score of 198.45.
"Our guys made some improvements from prelims, which is what you hope for," diving coach Nick Gayes said. "I think the experience they got this week will be really valuable moving forward. They are motivated to get better and I'm excited to see where we can be a year from now."
The MAC Championships will continue all day tomorrow for its fourth and final day.
