WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team wrapped up its first day of action at the Purdue Fall Invitational Friday. The Cardinals were one of 18 teams that competed in the 3-day event.
In singles action, true freshman Danilo Kovacevic
made his collegiate debut with a win in the Flight B bracket. Kovacevic took down host Purdue's Julian Saborio by a score of 6-3, 7-6 (4). He will now advance to the quarterfinal round Saturday where Kovacevic will play Brandon Shanklin of Marquette. After receiving a bye in Flight C, sophomore Thibault DeNegri will play Dominik Sochurek of Purdue tomorrow in the quarterfinals.
was the second Cardinal to register a win today after taking down DePaul's Conor O'Meara in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Bonin will now compete against Butler's Ryan Roegner in the second round. Khamasi Muhiga
rounded out the single victories today for Ball State after defeating Moritz Gisy of Purdue Northwest, 6-2, 6-3.
Ball State found a lot of success in its doubles competition today. DeNegri paired up with teammate Kovacevic for a 6-3 defeat over the Toledo twosome of Juan Carranza and Serjen Olmedo in Flight B. In Flight C, the Cardinals duo of Chris Adams
and Conner Andersen
advanced to the semi final round and will face the Boilermakers Franz Luna and Mateo Julio. Tom Carney
and Bonin registered two victories today as well and will look to advance past the semi's tomorrow.
