Five Men's Tennis Players Receive Academic All-MAC Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Seniors Lucas Andersen and Andrew Stutz along with sophomores Conner Andersen, Marko Guzina and Nemanja Guzina of the Ball State men's tennis team have been named to the 2017 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, as announced by the league office today. This is the third for Lucas Andersen, the second for Stutz and the first for Conner Andersen and the Guzina brothers.
This is the third straight season Lucas Andersen has earned Academic All-MAC honors as he owns a 3.821 in Biology. He collected MAC Player of the Year and All-MAC First Team honors for the second time in his career. Andersen is the first Cardinal in program history to earn back-to-back MAC Player of the Year accolades.  He is now a four-time All-MAC recipient, having also earned second-team honors twice. The No. 1 singles player from Greenwood, Indiana, completed his career with a 79-46 overall singles mark.
Stutz, a political science major, owns a 3.981 GPA. He was recognized with the Jack Vredevelt Sportsmanship Award, an annual honor presented to a MAC senior who has displayed outstanding sportsmanship throughout his career. The last time a Cardinal received the award was Alexandre Brym in 2013.
The three sophomores Conner Andersen along with fellow classmates Marko and Nemanja Guzina are the final three Cardinals to earn Academic All-MAC accolades. Conner Andersen, an accounting major, owns a 3.955 GPA while classmates Marko Guzina has a 3.902 and Nemanja Guzina owns a 3.681 GPA both in business. Conner Andersen registered the most singles wins for the Cardinals this season with a 22-13 overall mark while going 14-10 in dual action and a 5-2 ledger in MAC action.Â
Marko Guzina captured his first postseason conference award when he was voted to the MAC All-Tournament Team. The Toronto, Canada, native ended the year with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Western Michigan's Daniel Loebel on court four in the conference tournament semifinals. Nemanja Guzina finish the year with the second best singles mark for the Cardinals with a 21-13 record which included a 14-10 dual mark and a 5-2 MAC ledger.
