April 01, 2017 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State soccer team cruised to a 4-0 win Saturday over Missouri Baptist and then defeated the alumni team 4-2 as the Cardinals continued their spring schedule at the Briner Sports Complex.
Â
Sam Kambol tallied four goals on the day, including a hat trick in the alumni game.
Â
Lauren Roll scored the first goal against Missouri Baptist and assisted on the second. Emily Scott, Lucy Walton and Kambol also scored in the game. The Cardinals netted two of their goals on corner kicks.
Â
Walton and Sam Mattlin each made their returns from injury for the Cardinals. Mattlin helped the Cardinals post a shutout from her position on the back line.
Â
"We've been working on finishing and corners, so the fact we scored off two was good to see," Ball State coach Craig Roberts said. "We played very consistent. It was good to have Sam Mattlin and Lucy Walton back. Both had positive performances."
Â
Kambol really got going with three goals in the alumni game. Scott added the other goal for the Cardinals, giving her two for the day.
Â
Shaniece Thorpe, who completed her career with the Cardinals in 2012, scored both goals for the alumni team.
Â
"It was a well-spirited contest," Roberts said. "It was good to see the personalities and the humor within that game. It was a great opportunity for our new players to be introduced to those who came before them. Several of our alumni brought their children with them, and it was fun to see the different generations together."
Â
Ball State will continue its spring schedule Saturday, April 8 with games at 2 p.m. against Northwestern Ohio and 4 p.m. against Grace College.
