Matt Szews Named National Freshman of the Week For the Second Time

MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State men's volleyball Matt Szews was named Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Freshman of the Week for the second time this season.
Off the Block is a website that started in January 2011 and has become the nation's leader in college men's volleyball coverage.
Springbak, Inc. is the official sponsor of the 2017 Freshmen All-American Team and National Freshman of the Week and produces high performance footwear used by professional athletes from the NFL, NBA, MLB and U.S. Olympic teams and the top college teams in the nation.
Szews was honored for his performances against non-conference opponents UC Irvine and UC San Diego. In the loss to UC Irvine, he tallied 11 kills, two service aces, two digs and one block. In the sweep of UC San Diego, Szews had 10 kills for a .304 hitting percentage. He also had nine digs, two blocks and one service ace.
Szews currently leads the Cardinals in kills with 275 on the season along with averaging 3.67 kills per set. He also has 113 digs, 42 block assists and three solo blocks this season.
Szews and the rest of the Cardinals will return to action on Saturday, March 18 against Alderson Broaddus in Worthen Arena. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m.
