Cross Country Places Seven on Academic All-MAC Squad

CLEVELAND, Ohio - - Seven members of the Ball State cross country program were named to the 2017 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Cross Country Team as announced by the league office Tuesday (Nov. 21).

Student-athletes with a minimum 3.20 grade point average who participate in at least 50 percent of their team's meets are automatically named to the squad. First-year players and junior college transfers are not eligible.

Senior Jessica Bryzek (Brownsburg, Ind./Indiana Academy) earns the award for the third time in her cross country career after competing in six meets for the Cardinals this season, scoring in Ball State's top five once. She crossed the finish line with a season-best 6K time of 23:13.8 to place 71st among scored runners at the MAC Championships (Oct. 28). She earned a season-best 5K time of 19:10.95 at the Louisville Classic (Sep. 30), while placing fourth on the team and 15th overall at the RedHawk Rumble (Sept. 23) with a 6K time of 24:13.2.

Earning the award for the first time in their cross country careers were senior Kitty Taylor (Newburgh, Ind./Castle), along with sophomores Peyton Kneadler (Monticello, Ind./Twin Lakes), Stephanie McElhaney (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North), Maritza Rodriguez (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis), Meliza Rodriguez (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis)Â and Brooke Talhelm (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central).
