Game Day Central: Cardinals Head South for Season Opener
August 30, 2016 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – The 2016 college football season is finally upon us. Ball State opens the year with a true road game for the first time since 2005 as the Cardinals face Georgia State Friday night in the Georgia Dome.
Friday's game will be televised nationally on the American Sports Network and broadcast digitally on ESPN3. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
This will be Ball State's first game under the direction of head coach Mike Neu. The former Cardinal was hired as the program's 17th head coach back in January. Neu served the previous two seasons as the quarterbacks coach for the New Orleans Saints. As a player, Neu led Ball State to the 1993 MAC championship.
Four players are especially looking forward to Friday's game. S Corey Hall, S Martez Hester, LB Aaron Taylor and DE Brian Whitaker call the 'Peach State' home. Hall, Hester and Taylor are expected to start on defense for the Cardinals while Whitaker will be making his Ball State debut.
Georgia State won last year's meeting in Muncie on Oct. 17 by a score of 31-19. The statistics were nearly identical, but Georgia State scored touchdowns in all four trips inside the red zone while Ball State settled for two touchdowns and two field goals.
