MUNCIE, Ind. -- John Baker, and incoming Ball State freshman, earned Mr. Baseball honors from the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association.
An all-state right-handed pitcher from Michigan's Hartland High School, Baker shared the Mr. Baseball honor with University of Michigan signee Tommy Henry of Portage Northern.
Baker went 11-1 with a 0.80 ERA this spring. He struck out 117 batters over 82 innings of work, helping Hartland reach the state semifinals for the second year in a row. As a junior, he helped Hartland win its first state championship, going 10-2 with a 0.91 ERA and 131 strikeouts in 85 innings.
Baker is part of a freshman class set to enroll this fall and compete for Ball State next spring. The Cardinals are coming off a Mid-American Conference West Division championship season in which they finished 32-26 overall and 15-9 in the league.
