MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State women's basketball head coach Brady Sallee announces the addition of Saint Louis transfer Jasmin Samz (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West) to the Ball State women's basketball program.
"We are thrilled to add Jasmin to our basketball program,” Sallee said. “She was one of our top targets in the '15 recruiting class and will instantly make an impact to our team. The passion and fire she competes with will endear our fans to Jasmin. She epitomizes exactly what our program has become known for...toughness, heart and intensity. I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason and Jasmin Samz belongs in a Ball State uniform!"
Samz, a 5-10 guard, spent the 2015-16 season with the Billikens. She played in 14 games while averaging 3.9 minutes per contest. Samz has three years of eligibility remaining after she sits out the 2016-17 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
At Wausau West High School, Samz finished her career with 1,576 points. As a senior she was first team All-State, Wisconsin Valley Conference Player of the Year and a finalist for the Wisconsin Valley Conference Top Point Guard Award. Samz averaged 25.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists while shooting 40 percent from the 3-point line. She set a WVC single-season record with 322 points during league action.
As a junior, Samz collected All-State honorable mention while being named WVC Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference. She earned Wausau West's Leader and Defensive award while helping her team win the 2013 conference title.
A member of Team Wisconsin Select Black AAU basketball team, Samz made several All-Tournament teams and was selected to the 2014 5 State Hoops All-AAU squad. She also was a 2014 Rising Seniors tournament participant.
Samz also lettered in track and field at Wausau West where she earned multiple all-state and all-conference awards, and was a state championship competitor.
Academically, she was a member of the National Honor Society, gold academic letter recipient, Silver Student Award winner and an academic varsity letter recipient.
