MUNICE, Ind. – The Ball State women's swimming & diving team was rewarded for its excellence in the classroom, earning distinction as a College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team for the 2016 spring semester.
The Cardinals' student-athletes combined for a 3.44 team grade-point average, with 20 of the team's 27 student-athletes earning GPAs of 3.100-or-better. Three of Ball State's student-athletes finished the semester with a perfect 4.000 GPA; sophomore Hannah Cressman, junior Allie Kolz and junior Brittany Penn.
In addition, sixth other Cardinals boasted GPAs of 3.800-or-higher for the semester, including senior Sydney Harris, junior Quinn Bixler, sophomores Amanda Kedzierski and Traci Muszalski, plus freshmen Mason Dahman and Lauren Elston.
Ball State's 3.44 GPA for the 2016 spring semester ranks 54th among the 172 teams recognized for the award. The Cardinals ranked third among teams from the Mid-American Conference and third among teams from the state of Indiana.
The Ball State women's swimming & diving program has been named a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team in each semester under head coach Kristy Patterson. This past fall, the Cardinals boasted the third-highest overall GPA among all NCAA Division I women's programs at 3.62.
To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, programs must have achieved a grade-point average of 3.00 or higher over the 2016 spring semester. A total of 658 swimming and diving teams (both men's and women's), representing 388 colleges and universities, were honored for the term. It is only the second time in the program's 30+ year history that more than 600 teams were honored.
