Wiseman Leads Men's Golf on Day 1 at MAC

SYLVANIA, Ohio -- Freshman Timothy Wiseman led the Ball State men's golf team Thursday as the Mid-American Conference Championships opened.
Wiseman posted a 36-hole total of 149 (72-77) in cold, wet conditions at Highland Meadows Golf Club. He reached as high as fourth on the leaderboard late in round one and finished the day in 14th.
Ball State ended the day in eighth place as a team with a score of 610 (300-310). The Cardinals were fourth after the morning 18 holes but dropped back with a tough afternoon round.
Defending individual champion Johnny Watts (152) matched Wiseman with an opening 72 to tie for fifth before dropping back to a tie for 22nd with a second-round 80. James Blackwell is tied for 28th at 154 (77-77), while Michael VanDeventer is tied for 30th at 155 (79-76).
Kent State leads the field at 579 (+11), while Eastern Michigan is second at 583 (+15). Joo-Young Lee of Northern Illinois is the top individual at 139 (-3), while Eastern Michigan's Brett White is the only other player in red figures at 141 (-1).
Early morning rains subsided as play went along, but temperatures never rose above 42 degrees. It is expected to remain cool for the third round Friday and fourth round Saturday.
