T&F Competes in Three Events on Opening Day of Jesse Owens Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio - - The Ball State track & field team opened the two-day Jesse Owens Track & Field Classic by competing in three events at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium Friday evening.
Leading the Cardinals on the opening day of competition was junior Ericka Rinehart who finished just off her career-best pace in the 3000m steeplechase, placing 11th overall in 11:48.86. At last Saturday's Ball State Challenge, Rinehart turned in a career-fast time of 11:35.20 in the event.
Also competing on the track for Ball State Friday was junior Jordan Timmons who took 45th in the 1500m run with a time of 5:17.21
In its only field event action on the day, seniors Marie Lumpkin and Michaela Hull placed 17th (39.61m) and 20th (38.18m), respectively, in the discus. Lumpkin's effort was a season-best mark.
The Ball State track & field team concludes action in the Jesse Owens Track & Field Classic Saturday, starting at noon with the 4x100m relay. Overall, the Cardinals are entered in nine events on the final day of the competition.
