Fontaine An All-Region Nominee For WBCA All-America

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced today that Ball State University women's basketball forward Nathalie Fontaine has been selected as an All-Region nominee for the 2016 WBCA Division I Coaches' All-American Team. Fontaine is one of 52 candidates to make the final 10-member team, which will be announced April 2.
Fontaine the lone MAC player nominated earned her spot on the Regional 2 team after being named the 2016 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year along with many other accolades. A seven-time MAC West Division Player of the Week honoree this season, Fontaine ranks first on Ball State's all-time scoring list with 2,166 career points and third in school history with 985 rebounds.
She is also the Cardinals' career leader in games started (130), minutes played (4,320) and free throws made (541). She ranks second in program history for games played (130) and field goals made (805) and sixth for blocked shots (69).
A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Fontaine broke Ball State's single-game scoring record this season with a career high 43 points at Evansville (12/21/15). She has scored in double figures in all of Ball State's 32 games this season and 118 times out of 130 total games in her career. Fontaine has earned 20 double-doubles this season and has 38 for her career. She has scored 20-or-more points 37 times in her career.
A three-time All-MAC First Team selection, Fontaine led Ball State in scoring (20.6) and rebounding (10.2). She ended the season with 660 points which is the most a player has ever scored in a single season in program history.
She ranks eighth in the country in double-doubles and free throws made, 12th in free throw attempts (226), 21st in rebounds per game (10.2), 24th in scoring (20.6) and 26th in defensive rebounds (7.0).
Fontaine led Ball State to a record of 22-10 (13-5 MAC), its fourth-straight Women's National Invitation appearance and a first-round win over Big Ten foe Iowa (77-72).
The 2016 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America Team will be announced on Saturday, April 2, during NCAA® Women's Final Four® Super Saturday festivities in Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
