Men?s Golf Sixth through Two Rounds at Pinehurst

VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, N.C. -- The Ball State men's golf team held its position in sixth place Saturday at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, while Johnny Watts stayed in the hunt for the individual title.
Freshman Timothy Wiseman, competing as an individual, posted the lowest score of any Ball State golfer Saturday with an even-par 71.
The Cardinals logged a team score of 299 to bring their two-day total to 597 (+29). Michael VanDeventer led the way Saturday with a 73, while the team also counted a 74 from Watts, a 75 from Keegan McKinney and a 77 from James Blackwell.
Xavier owns a 10-shot lead in the team race at 576 (+8) after a second consecutive round of 288. Austin Peay (+18) is second, and Elon (+19) is third in the 11-team field.
Watts, who held the first-round lead, was as low as 4 under par for the tournament through six holes Saturday before five bogeys in his final 12 holes. Still, he is just two shots off the lead at 143 (+1).
Xavier owns the top two spots on the individual leaderboard with Jose Montano at 141 (-1) and Daniel Wetterich at 142 (Even).
Wiseman's even-par round vaulted him 18 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 12th at 147 (+5). VanDeventer and McKinney are tied for 24th at 150 (+8).
