February 09, 2016 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. – A full house packed the Ball State Alumni Center Saturday evening for the baseball team's annual 'Meet the Team Night.'
“Thanks to all those who came out Saturday,” head coach Rich Maloney said. “It was a wonderful evening celebrating Ball State baseball, the upcoming season and honoring those players who won awards from last season's team. There is a lot of excitement surrounding the future of Ball State baseball.”
The evening began with an autograph session and silent auction before dinner was served. Following dinner, a highlight video from the team's recent trip to the Dominican Republic was shown.
The 2015 team awards were then handed out, highlighted by these winners –Elbert Devarie (MVP), junior Zach Plesac (Pitcher of the Year), junior Alex Call (Offensive Player of the Year), junior Sean Kennedy (Defensive Player of the Year) and junior Jarett Rindfleisch (Dirtbag Award). Devarie is the only winner who is not back with the Cardinals this season.
Towards the end of the evening, senior Ryan Spaulding and Rindfleisch reminisced on their time thus far with the Cardinals and gave some analysis of the 2016 squad. Both players believe Ball State is in position to compete for a MAC championship this spring.
Ball State's 2016 season opener is slated for Feb. 19 in Arizona against No. 8 Oregon State.
