February 23, 2016 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State University head football coach Mike Neu has announced that Chevis Jackson and Kevin Lynch are joining the coaching staff for the 2016 season. Jackson will serve as the defensive backs coach while Lynch will oversee the running backs.
“I'm glad we finally have the entire coaching staff in place and ready to go for spring practice,” Neu said. “Both Chevis and Kevin have the drive to be successful coaches at this level of football.”
Jackson has spent the last three years as a defensive graduate assistant at the University of South Alabama (2013-14) and Louisiana State University (2015). The 2015 LSU squad finished 9-3 overall, were ranked 16th in the final national polls and earned a 56-27 victory over Texas Tech in the Texas Bowl. He helped South Alabama earn a bowl bid for the first time in program history – the 2014 Camellia Bowl. South Alabama's defense ranked second in the Sun Belt in both scoring defense and total defense in 2013.
Jackson played collegiate football at LSU and was a member of the 2007 BCS championship team. The Atlanta Falcons selected Jackson in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He went on to play in the NFL for four seasons with five different teams – Atlanta, Jacksonville, New England, Denver and Carolina.
Lynch just completed his sixth year on staff at the University of Indianapolis. He was an integral part of one of the most successful eras in UIndy history, helping the Greyhounds to 39 wins, four conference championships and three NCAA Division II playoff appearances in the last four years. Lynch mentored numerous UIndy receivers to all-conference accolades, including two-time GLVC Player of the Year and 2015 All-American, Reece Horn.
A three-year starting wide receiver at Franklin College during his collegiate days, Lynch joined the coaching ranks in 2009 as the offensive quality control coach at Indiana.
Lynch hails from a family rich in NCAA coaching experience. He is the youngest son of former Ball State and Indiana head coach Bill Lynch, who is currently the head football coach at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. Kevin's older brother, Joey Lynch, is also on staff at Ball State as the offensive coordinator. His oldest brother, Billy Lynch works as the wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator at Rice University.
