February 18, 2016 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey program has signed three new student-athletes to the 2016 class with National Letters of Intent, including Haley Jolly (Parkton, Md./Hereford), Rachel Pereira (Howick, South Africa/St. Anne's Piocean College) and Olivia Susi (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) according to head coach Christy Longacre. All players will join the Cardinals for the fall 2016 season.
Jolly completed her senior season at Hereford High School with six goals and seven assists. Prior to being selected for the All-State Senior All Star Game in 2015, Jolly was named First Division Honorable Mention in Baltimore Country in 2014. Jolly and the Hereford field hockey team were two-time Baltimore County Champions and Maryland 2A State Champions, as well as three-time 2A Regional Champions. The three-year letter winner scored 23 goals and tallied 25 assists throughout her career, in the process of leading the Hereford field hockey team to a 46-8-2 overall record. Jolly also earned the 2013 Sportsmanship Award, and has been on the school honor roll all four years. A multi-sport athlete, Jolly also competes for the Hereford outdoor track and field team as a sprinter, long and triple jumper.
Susi, a soon-to-be graduate of Olentangy Liberty High School with a 3.7 GPA, plans to enter Ball State with a pre-med major. Earning three letters under head coach Marianne Besnara Flannery, Susi and the Olentangy Liberty team finished as four-time Elite 8 participants, and as first-time Ohio Capital Conference champions in 2014. With Susi marking 16 defensive saves, 12 assists and one goal as a senior, she established two school records, including most defensive saves in a season (2015) as well as most defensive saves in a career, of 23. Susi was selected as All-Conference Honorable Mention, and was the team's leading defender all four years in which she played. After posting a 56-16-3 overall career record, Susi helped lead the Olentangy Liberty team to the least goals against average and most shutouts (11) in a season in the program's history. A standout on the field and in the classroom, Susi has been a four-time honoree of the Ohio Field Hockey Coaches Association Academic All-Ohio Award, Central Field Hockey Coaches Association Scholar Athlete Award, and the Olentangy Liberty Scholar Athlete Award and has been selected for the National Futures on three occasions (2013, 2014, 2015). A multi-sport athlete, Susi also plays for the Olentangy Liberty lacrosse team.
Pereira completed her senior year at Sacred Heart Academy with 37 goals, 32 assists, and a 44-7-4 career record. This past year, Gullett earned All-Catholic First Team and All-State Second Team honors, in addition to being named Academic All-State and to the All-Star Team for the second consecutive year. Gullett and the Sacred Heart field hockey program finished as district champions in 2013 and 2014, in addition to finishing as the state runner-up in 2013. Gullett also boasts a 3.72 GPA rounding out her senior year.
