Women’s Swimming and Diving to Take on a Tough Akron Squad
October 27, 2016 | Women's Swimming and Diving
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women's swimming and diving team will travel MAC preseason favorite Akron on Friday (Oct. 28). Meet time is set for 5 p.m.
After finishing the season opener in second place out of eight teams, the Cardinals are hoping to continue to improve scores and times this weekend.
Freshman Sophie Bader looks to continue her impressive start from last Saturday. In the Indiana Intercollegiate, Bader finished fourth in the 200 yard IM, second in the 100 yard butterfly and second as part of the 200 yard medley relay.
Ball State's divers will also look to keep the pace they set last weekend. In the one-meter diving event, Rachel Bertram finished second, Rachel Smallwood finished fifth, Taylor Fiew finished sixth, Courtney McKeen finished eighth, and Brittany Penn finished ninth. Bertram and Smallwood both also placed in the top five on the three-meter board.
Senior Jessica Extine will look to help the Cardinals swim past the Zips in multiple events. Last weekend, Extine placed fourth in the 50 yard freestyle, 11th in the 100 yard freestyle and second as part of the 200 yard medley relay.
Akron was predicted to capture their fourth straight MAC title in the preseason poll. Akron returns 24 letterwinners from the 2016 squad, including three 2016 first team All-MAC selections along with a second-team All-MAC honoree.
