MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State senior midfielder Chelsy Swackhamer was selected Monday as the Mid-American Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week.
Swackhamer scored for the third consecutive game in Ball State's weekend-opening contest against Eastern Michigan. Her tally in the first half helped the Cardinals to a 2-1 victory Friday over the Eagles, the first of two wins for Ball State to open MAC play.
Swackhamer racked up seven shots for the week and put three of them on goal. She led a Ball State attack that controlled possession throughout the weekend. Ball State out-shot its opponents by a 40-14 margin over the two games – 16-7 against Eastern Michigan and 24-7 at Bowling Green.
Ball State improved to 6-2-2 (2-0 MAC) with the two victories. The Cardinals will return to action on the road this weekend with games Friday at Toledo and Sunday at Central Michigan.
Swackhamer is the third Ball State player to earn a weekly award from the MAC this season. The Cardinals swept the Aug. 31 awards with Abbie Boswell receiving the offensive honor and goalkeeper Alyssa Heintschel getting the defensive nod.
