Women's Tennis Wraps Up Day Two Of Wildcat Invite
September 26, 2015 | Women's Tennis
EVANSTON, Ill. - The Ball State women's tennis team had a successful day at the Wildcat Invite after winning six singles matches Saturday.
"Day two of the tournament was a very successful day for our team,” Ball State assistant women's tennis coach Tessa Lyons said. "The girls came out strong in doubles and carried that over into singles. We had two players win all three matches of the day and each of them pulled out some gutsy wins. Tomorrow we want to finish strong and continue the confident, high-level play we saw today."
Carmen Blanco and Peyton Gollhofer started the day off with straight set victories over Eastern Michigan and Illinois Chicago, respectively in round one singles competition. Toni Ormond also took a three set thriller over Bianca ZuZu, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.
In round two singles, Gollhofer, who has only lost one singles match the entire tournament, defeated Jarret Fisher of DePaul, 7-6 (5), 6-3. Ormond continued her winning ways with a victory over Eastern Michigan's Anna Veleva. Julia Sbircea would end singles play also with a win over Eastern Michigan. Sbircea would take down the Eagles Andrea Martinovska, 6-2, 5-7, 6-0.
In doubles play the Cardinals would suffer losses to Pittsburgh and Michigan State.
The Ball State women's tennis team will end its competition at the Wildcat Invite Sunday afternoon.
