“After a couple weeks of training, we are excited for the chance to compete against some of the top distance programs from the state of Indiana,” first-year distance coach Raynee DeGrio said. “Our long-term goal is to be considered one of the elite programs in the state, so it's good for us to race that caliber of team. For this meet, our goal is simply to improve from the first time out. We want to run a little quicker and focus on competing better. If we can execute our race, the results should play out in our favor.”
Overall, a total of 26 teams and 310 runners are set to compete in the two women's events. The championship race is limited to colleges and universities located in the state of Indiana with a maximum of nine runners per school. The open race will include the remainder of runners from teams entered in the championship race, along with all non-Indiana colleges and universities, club teams and unattached athletes.
Junior Ericka Rinehart (Angola, Ind./Angola) is Ball State's top returning performer from last season's Indiana Intercollegiate held at Purdue's Boilermaker Cross Country Course. She finished the three-mile championship race in 19:40.7 which placed her 41st among “Big School” runners.
In the first meet of the 2015 season, sophomore Jessica Bryzek (Brownsburg, Ind./Indiana Academy) led the Cardinals to the finish line by placing 12th among the 44 runners in the field at the Butler Open with a time of 19:47.3.
