MUNCIE, Ind. -- After a pair of wins over the weekend, Ball State swept the Mid-American Conference weekly awards for women's soccer on Monday.
Freshman forward Abigail Boswell was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Heintschel was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Boswell scored goals in both of Ball State's victories. The Woodridge, Ill., product gave the Cardinals an early lead Friday against Wright State with a goal in the 12th minute of a 2-1 victory. She then registered a second-half goal in Sunday's 3-0 win at IPFW.
Boswell led the Ball State attack with nine shots for the week, and she put eight of them on goal. She paced a Cardinals attack that outscored its opponents 5-1 and out-shot them 57-13 for the week.
Heintschel played a major role in the two victories, limiting the Cardinals' opponents to a combined one goal. The Oregon, Ohio, product surrendered that one goal in Friday's victory over Wright State after her team had already built a 2-0 lead.
She then played the first 70 minutes of the shutout victory Sunday at IPFW, combining with fellow keeper Bailey Coppedge to post a clean sheet. Heintschel made a key save on a penalty kick to keep IPFW off the scoreboard. For the week, she stopped five of the six shots she faced.
Ball State improved to 3-1 on the season with the two wins. The Cardinals will travel to Baton Rouge, La., this weekend to play Friday against LSU and Sunday against Middle Tennessee.
