Football Holds One Final Scrimmage Before Opener
August 29, 2015 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – With just six days remaining until the collegiate football season kicks off, Ball State penciled in one final scrimmage Friday night before the VMI contest.
The Cardinals went through their normal pregame routine of stretching and warming up beginning at 7 p.m. After warm-ups, the coaching staff had 31 different situations for the players to execute ranging from up-tempo drives to red zone plays to sudden change of possession.
Notable plays from the scrimmage included an early 36-yard touchdown pass from sophomore QB Jack Milas to senior WR Jordan Williams. Midway through the scrimmage, junior WR Cywettnie Brown made a beautiful touchdown grab on an eight-yard fade pattern. Senior WR Chris Shillings got in on the action with a 38-yard scoring catch in the latter stages of practice.
Senior LB Avery Bailey made the defense's big play of the night when he undercut a Riley Neal pass attempt for an interception.
“There weren't very many penalties called tonight which makes you feel pretty good coming off the field,” head coach Pete Lembo said. “There were certainly some guys who showed up, including some young players who missed part of preseason due to minor injuries, and got a chance to come out here tonight and make some plays. I was encouraged by their play. There were also a couple of breakdowns that you hope we can correct between now and Thursday.”
The football team continues practice this weekend with Saturday and Sunday times of 7:15 p.m.
