Gymnasts Honored For Academic Excellence

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State gymnastics program tied for league-high honors with eight student-athletes earning praise on the 2015 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Gymnastics Team as announced by the league office. In addition, 11 members of the program captured MAC Honor Roll accolades, five claimed MAC Commissioner's Awards and senior Madison Shorts (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) earned the MAC Presidential Award.
“I am really proud of the academic performance of these young ladies,” Ball State head coach Joanna Saleem said. “It shows they worked hard this past year both in the gym and the classroom.”
Ball State tied for league-high honors with eight selections to the Academic All-MAC Team which is presented to student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for their particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfer in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
To be eligible for the MAC Honor Roll, a student-athlete must achieve a minimum 3.000 cumulative GPA and cannot be a freshman or junior college transfer in their first year of residence.
The MAC Commissioner's Award recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a minimum 3.500 cumulative GPA at the end of two semesters or three quarters. First year students and graduating seniors are not eligible for this award, while transfer students must complete one full academic year prior to being eligible.
The MAC Presidential Award is presented to graduating senior student-athletes who have achieved a minimum 3.500 cumulative GPA over their career. Only student-athletes whose eligibility is exhausted are eligible for the award.
