July 17, 2015 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. – The 2014-15 Ball State University men's tennis team was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team after earning a 3.389 grade point average on Ball State's 4.0 scale.
Ball State, Binghamton and Northern Illinois were the only three men's tennis programs from the Mid-American Conference to receive the ITA All-Academic team honor.
Four members of the squad received individual ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades--sophomore Lucas Andersen (3.678), sophomore Matt Helm (3.904), senior Ray Leonard (3.642) and sophomore Andrew Stutz (4.00). Leonard has received the honor three times, and this is the second time Andersen, Helm and Stutz have received the award.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2014 and spring 2015).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
