Track & Field Set For Pair Of Meets This Week

MUNCIE, Ind. - - With a week left until the 2015 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships, the Ball State outdoor track & field team looks to bolster its numbers qualified for the meet by competing in both the Hillsdale “Last Chance” Classic and the Louisville Twilight.
Action at Thursday's event at Ken Herrick Outdoor Track in Hillsdale, Mich., is set to begin at noon with the women's shot put, while running events begin at 4 p.m. with prelims of the women's 100m hurdles. Action at Friday's event at Cardinal Park in Louisville, Ky., gets underway at 10 a.m. with the women's long jump and approximately 4:15 p.m. with the women's 100m hurdles prelims.
Last time out, the Cardinals managed nine career-best efforts and 13 top 10 performances at the Rankin/Poehlein Invitational hosted by Purdue. Three Ball State student-athletes fell just short of MAC automatic qualifying marks with solid efforts at the meet.
This weekend, the Cardinals are looking to continue their climb up the MAC performance list prior to the 2015 MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held May 14-16 at Ball State's University Track at the Briner Sports Complex.

- After posting a MAC Outdoor Championship automatic qualifying mark of 1.75m (5-8.75) in the high jump at the Cardinal Invitational (April 17), senior Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) enters the week ranked fifth on the league's performance list in the event. In addition, her season-best long jump of 5.60m (18-4.5) is currently 20th in the MAC, while her time of 12.23 in the 100m dash is 19th. Both efforts also came at Ball State's home meet.
- An All-MAC Second Team honoree in the indoor long jump, sophomore Makelle Skelton (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) enters the week ranked ninth on the MAC Outdoor Performance list in the long jump with a career-best leap of 5.85m (19-2.5) at last weekend's Rankin/Poehlein Invitational (May 1). Skelton turned in a career-fast 100m dash clocking of 12.03 at the Hillsdale Invitational (4/11), which is also the ninth-best individual effort in the MAC this outdoor season.
- Ball State's senior twin duo of Courtney Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) and Caitlynn Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) enter the week ranked 10th (11:08.10) and 14th (11:17.83), respectively, on the MAC Outdoor Performance list in the 3000m steeplechase.
- The battle for Ball State's pole vault record heats up again this weekend with senior Hannah Ciasto-Poor (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) entering the meet as the outdoor record holder after clearing a height of 3.72m at last season's Dave Rankin Invitational (May 2, 2014) … Ciasto-Poor also held the indoor record with a mark of 3.75m set at the Illini Classic (Jan. 17), only to have sophomore Elizabeth Eversole (Mishawaka, Ind./Marian) break the record with a vault of 3.77m at the Ball State Invitational (Feb. 20) … Eversole enters the week ranked 16th in the MAC during the outdoor season after clearing a career-best outdoor height of 3.66m at last weekend's Rankin/Poehlein Invitational, while Ciasto-Poor is 20th with a mark of 3.51m set at the season-opener.
- In the throws, junior Marie Lumpkin (Losantville, Ind./Union) enters the week ranked 11th on the MAC's Outdoor Performance List in the hammer (53.44m / 175-4) and 13th in the discus (43.87m / 143-11) … Junior Michaela Hull (Bloomington, Ind./South) climbed to 10th in the javelin with a career-best mark of 38.07m (124-11) at last weekend's Rankin/Poehlein Invitational, and is also 17th in the discus with a season-best mark of 42.26m (138-8) set at Ball State home meet.
- Ball State's student-athletes have posted 66 career-best efforts so far during the outdoor season.
