Track & Field Concludes Day Two Of MAC Championships

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Senior Courtney Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) turned in a ninth-place showing in the 3000m steeplechase with a 11:22.65 time to lead the Ball State track & field team on the second day of the 2015 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships held at University Track in the Briner Sports Complex.
Senior Caitlynn Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) and sophomore Ericka Rinehart (Angola, Ind./Angola) also competed in the 3000m steeplechase placing 15th (11:44.60) and 17th (11:51.84), respectively.
Through eight scored events at the three-day meet, Akron holds the overall lead with 65 points. Eastern Michigan is second with 59.5 points, followed by Kent State (49), Toledo (34), Northern Illinois (27), Central Michigan (22), Bowling Green (17), Western Michigan (13), Buffalo (11.5), Ohio (8), Miami (6) and Ball State (0).
With her 10th-place and career-best time of 11.88 in the 100m dash, senior Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) will continue to the finals of the 2015 MAC Outdoor Championships tomorrow afternoon. Trailing Lomax in the semifinals of the 100m dash was sophomore Makelle Skelton (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop), who placed 20th overall with 12.31. The pair also competed in the long jump where Lomax snagged a 12th-place finish with a 5.54m mark, while Skelton distanced 5.29m for 15th.
A second career best was marked when junior Danielle Dahl (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) finished in a 2:12.45 fashion in the 800m run semifinals for 10th. Dahl will compete at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the finals.
In the 400m hurdles, sophomore Olivia Ashba (Ellettsville, Ind./Edgewood) led a trio of Cardinals in the event by crossing the finish line in 1:03.43 to place 16th, while senior Natalia Boykin (Fort Wayne, Ind./Wayne) and sophomore Kassidy Swenson (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) finished 18th (1:03.81) and 19th (1:03.89), respectively.
Other Cardinals who competed on day two of the 2015 MAC Outdoor Championships included senior Hannah Lange (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville), who finished 14th in the 400m dash with a 57.14 time, and freshman Anna-Kay West (Manchester, Jamaica/Manchester), who turned in a 14.94 time for 20th in the 100m hurdles.
The Ball State track & field team is scheduled to compete in nine events on the third and final day of competition Saturday, starting at 10:30 a.m. with the triple jump.
