Track & Field To Host 2015 MAC Championships

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State outdoor track & field team is set to host this week's 2015 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 14-16 at University Track in the Briner Sports Complex.
The three-day event, which runs Thursday through Saturday, kicks off at 10 a.m. Thursday with action in the women's hammer throw. The top eight performers from each event will be scored based on a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scale.

In the third season of automatic qualifying standards, the Cardinals will send 19 individuals and a pair of relay teams to the outdoor championship meet. Under the current format, each event is capped at 20 participants. If 20 student-athletes did not post automatic marks in an event, entrants were selected going down the conference's performance list.
Senior Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) is poised to score for the Cardinals, ranking fifth in the league in the high jump with an automatic qualifying mark of 1.75m. Lomax is also set to participate individually in the 100m dash (9th, 12.01) and the long jump (12th, 5.78m) Friday at 2:50 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively. In addition, Lomax is set to run anchor for the 4x100m relay (11th, 47.44) Saturday afternoon at 1:10 p.m.
Sophomore Makelle Skelton (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) is qualified for two individual events, ranking 10th in the long jump (5.85m) and 11th in the 100m dash (12.03). Skelton will also participate in the 9th-seeded 4x400 relay (3:51.42) Saturday at 4:50 p.m., after she leads off the 11th-seeded 4x100m relay (47.44) at 1:10 p.m.
Senior Natalia Boykin (Fort Wayne, Ind./Wayne) enters the outdoor championships ranked 16th in the MAC in the 400m hurdles (1:02.61). The 400m hurdles, which takes place at 4 p.m. Friday, also features sophomore Olivia Ashba (Ellettsville, Ind./Edgewood) who is seeded 17th (1:02.77) and sophomore Kassidy Swenson (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) who is seeded 18th (1:03.79).
Ball State also has a pair of throwers entered in two individual events in juniors Marie Lumpkin (Losantville, Ind./Union) and Michaela Hull (Bloomington, Ind./South). Lumpkin qualified for both the hammer throw (11th, 53.44m) and the discus (14th, 43.87m), while Hull is entered in the javelin throw (12th, 38.07m) and the discus (17th, 42.26m).
Last season, the Cardinals placed 12th among the 12 league schools at the 2014 MAC Outdoor Championships hosted by Ohio, collecting one point in the meet.
