Fernandez, Grande Play In Madrid Final Four

MUNCIE, Ind. - Lucia Fernandez and Carmen Grande, recent signees for the Ball State women's basketball team, played in the Madrid Final 4 Junior Femenino Basketball Championships this past weekend in Spain.
Fernandez, a 6-foot-1 forward, plays for Club HM Torrelodones, a top club in Madrid, and was named the Most Valuable Player of the entire tournament. She averaged 16.0 points and 14.0 rebounds per game. In game three of the Madrid Final Four, Fernandez scored 23 points while pulling down 15 rebounds. She also had a 21-point performance and pulled down 15 boards against CN Canoe in her first game.
Grande, also from Madrid, Spain, is a 5-foot-8 guard who is a member of the U16 Spanish National Team. She helped herteam, one of the most dominant in Spain, Rivas to a 27-0 overall record and the Madrid Championship title which qualified them for the Spanish Championship beginning May 10th. As the starting point guard for Rivas, Grande scored 12 points in the final game, helping her team to an 86-35 victory over CNCanoe.
In the tournament, Fernandez and Grande played with and against numerous players who have signed to compete at the Division I level next year – two in the ACC, two in the MAC, one in the SEC, one in the Big East and one in the Mountain West.
