Track & Field Hosts Cardinal Invitational Friday

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State outdoor track & field team hosts the fourth-annual Cardinal Invitational Friday at University Track in the Briner Sports Complex. Admission to the meet is free.
For the first time in its history, the Cardinal Invitational will feature both men's and women's teams, with action set to begin at 10 a.m. in the men's hammer throw. The final event on the docket is the men's 4x400m relay. Overall, 12 women's teams and eight men's teams, along with numerous unattached competitors, are entered in the meet.
The Cardinals Invitational will also serve as senior day for the Ball State track & field program which will honor seven student-athletes following the 400m dash. Competing in their last regular season home meet for Ball State are: Haley Austin, Natalia Boykin, Hannah Ciasto-Poor, Caitlynn Edon, Courtney Edon, Hannah Lange and Rebecca Lomax.
At last Saturday's Hillsdale Invitational, the Ball State outdoor track & field team earned two event wins and 17 career-best performances.
Leading the way for the Cardinals was sophomore Makelle Skelton who won the long jump (5.53m / 18-1.75) and turned in career-best times in the 100m dash (4th / 12.03) and 200m dash (7th / 25.64). Skelton also ran the second legs of the 4x100m (48.10) and 4x400m (3:51.42) relays.
Junior Marie Lumpkin earned Ball State's other event victory with a career-best hammer throw of 52.31m (171-7). Lumpkin was also Ball State's top performer in the discus with a fourth-best mark of 42.73m (140-2).
