MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University men's tennis team will host Mid-American Conference rival Western Michigan for its last home conference match of the season, Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
The Cardinals enter Saturday's contest with an overall record of 11-9 and a 1-1 league mark. Western Michigan is 17-5 and owns a 2-1 MAC ledger. The Cardinals are coming off of a 4-3 win over Northern Illinois (April 11) and a 7-0 victory against Indiana University South East Tuesday at home. Western Michigan lost to NIU 4-3 (March 27) but has recently defeated Buffalo 5-2 (April 4). The Broncos defeated Xavier in non-conference action Sunday 4-3 in Cincinnati.
Ball State will also pay tribute to its two seniors Patrick Elliott and Ray Leonard. Elliott earned All-MAC Second Team honors in 2014 and was on the All-MAC Tournament team in 2013. Leonard is a three-time All-MAC First Team honoree. Both Elliott and Leonard are members of the 2014 MAC Tournament team that made their eighth trip to the NCAA Tournament. They also helped Ball State capture the 2013 MAC regular season championship.
Head coach Bill Richards, who is in his 43rd season as a Cardinal was a 1970 graduate of Western Michigan. Richards was a three-year letterwinner for the Broncos and a MAC Champion in both singles and doubles.
