Men's Swimmer To Participate In Global Research

SEATTLE, Wash. – Sophomore Tanner Barton, a member of the Ball State men's swimming and diving team will be participating in a global focus group for Type 1 Diabetics this week. The study is sponsored by Novo Nordisk, a multinational pharmaceutical company that specializes in insulin distribution and novel diabetic research.
A long-time patient of Type I Diabetes, Barton will be presenting to the Board of Directors and fellow committee members on his experiences as a competitive student-athlete in collegiate sport and attest to the physical, emotional, and psychosocial burdens of Type 1 Diabetes.
Barton has also had extensive involvement with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), in which he participates in the international Type I Diabetes voices council and speakers bureau, where he serves at the council's youngest member.
The objective of the Novo Nordisk meeting is to gather insights from Type I Diabetics on the barriers they face in managing the disease, with the ultimate goal of channeling these insights into innovative solutions. The discussions and presentations Barton will participate in will include how various research therapies can improve patient care, health, and happiness.
Barton is known throughout the community to be an avid advocate always eager to spread his knowledge and experiences with Type I Diabetes, as well as a positive and influential representative of the Ball State men's swimming and diving team.
