Soccer Hosting Haiti WNT for Third Straight Year
March 31, 2015 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State soccer team will host the Haiti Women's National Team for the third straight year April 12 at 3 p.m. The Cardinals are proud to partner with Soccer Indiana for the game as they continue their spring schedule at the Briner Sports Complex.
As always, admission is free for fans of all ages. At halftime, children will be able to “Take a Shot on Charlie” with Charlie Cardinal playing goalkeeper and encouraging kids to take their best shot. Soccer Indiana representatives will be on site, as well, with giveaways for fans. After the game, both the Ball State and Haiti teams will sign autographs.
The relationship between Ball State and the Haiti Women's National Team has blossomed in recent years, so much so that Cardinals coach Craig Roberts now serves as an assistant for coach Shek Borkowski's Haiti side. For this game, though, Roberts will be in his usual post along the Ball State bench as the Cardinals seek a third straight win in the series.
“We are delighted to have the privilege of once again playing a national team in Muncie,” Roberts said. “With my current affiliation with the team from Haiti, our relationship has only grown stronger. We are excited about the opportunity to play against a team that has continued to raise its level of performance. Our team has had a good spring season, and Haiti will provide a strong test for the areas we have been working on.”
Haiti is ranked 63rd in the FIFA world rankings and checks in at No. 6 among more than 30 teams in the CONCACAF region. Ball State posted a 1-0 win in 2013 in the first meeting between the teams and managed a 2-1 victory in last year's contest.
The Cardinals are unbeaten at 5-0-1 on their spring season and have allowed only one goal through their first six games. Ball State is coming off an 11-7-2 record last fall and its second straight appearance in the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
