March 24, 2015 | Football
Alex Bailey, who spent the 2014 season as the wide receivers coach at Wayne State, has been named to the same position for the Ball State football team, according to Cardinals' head coach Pete Lembo.
“We are very pleased to welcome Alex to the coaching staff and the Ball State football family,” Lembo said. “We have gotten to know Alex over the last few years through summer camps and during off campus recruiting travels. He also worked closely with tight ends coach Pat Dougherty and former offensive line coach and Ball State alum Nick Tabacca at a previous institution. Alex has spent his entire coaching career in the Midwest and we expect a smooth transition. Our receiving corp will enjoy and benefit from his sincerity, integrity and detailed approach.”
Prior to Wayne State, Bailey was the recruiting coordinator/pass game coordinator/wide receivers coach in 2012-13 at Valparaiso where he recruited Michigan, Ohio and Texas. In 2013, his wide receiving group improved from seven touchdown catches the year before to 22 TD receptions. He spent from 2010-11 as the wide receivers coach at Dayton and coached four all-conference receivers. Bailey helped Dayton to a 10-1 record in 2010, including the Pioneer Football League Championship.
Bailey began his coaching career at Defiance College from 2007-09. In his initial campaign he coached Luke Dillion, who received honorable mention on the D3football.com All-America Team. In 2009, Bailey tutored Defiance's Freshman of the Year.
A 2007 graduate of Youngstown State, Bailey played for the Penguins from 2001-03. He earned his master's degree from Defiance in 2009.
