Soccer Wins Two as Spring Season Continues
March 21, 2015 | Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State soccer team posted a pair of 4-0 wins Saturday afternoon as it continued its spring schedule at the Briner Sports Complex.
The Cardinals opened the day with a victory over a visiting Canadian club team and then posted a win over Grace College, the National Christian College Athletic Association runner-up.
Lucy Walton recorded a hat trick in the opening game, while Shannon Greeley scored the fourth goal.
“It was an outstanding performance from Lucy,” Ball State coach Craig Roberts said. “She showed a lot of maturity and was able to create shots from different areas of the field. Shannon was able to get beyond the defense and finish, which was great to see.”
Aly Kohanowski and Gabby Veldman notched two goals each to account for the scoring in the later game against Grace College. Veldman was playing outside of her normal midfield position, working the left side of the back line.
Alyssa Heintschel was between the posts for both games, recording a pair of shutouts. The Cardinals have allowed only one goal through four games this spring.
“We made progress and played with a lot of consistency and commitment today,” Roberts said. “I was pleased with what we were able to do, especially against a Grace College team that has a great reputation.”
The Cardinals will return to action Saturday, March 28, hosting Missouri Baptist at 1:45 p.m. and Concordia at 3:45 p.m. to continue the spring schedule.
