Women's Tennis Defeats Evansville 6-1 Sunday

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team earned a convincing 6-1 victory against Evansville, Sunday afternoon at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. The Cardinals improve their overall mark to 3-2 on the season with the win, while the Purple Aces dropped to 2-2.
"Evansville fought very hard today,” Ball State head women's tennis coach Max Norris said. "They have some great players and competed well. I thought we had a total team effort today. I was pleased by our attitude and I think that was a great match for us going forward."
After losing in non-conference action Friday against Xavier, the Cardinals got back track at the start of the match today after taking the doubles point from Evansville. Courtney Wild alongside teammate Bethany Moore took down Andjela Brquljan and Kennedy Craig by a score of 6-3 at the No. 2 doubles position. At No. 3 doubles, Olivia Large and Toni Ormond did not give up a point to Marina Moreno and Gaby Fifer winning the match 6-0.
Ball State took five of the six singles matches from Evansville. Wild, Moore and Large all defeated their opponents in straight sets at the No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots, respectively. Earnest took a three set thriller from Nathasha James after dropping the first set 6-4 she would come back in sets two and three for the 6-4, 6-1 victory. At No. 4 singles, Ormond found herself down 6-2 after the first set, she then fought her way back by winning sets two and three by a score of 6-4, 6-3 clinching the match for the Cardinals.
The Ball State women's tennis team will continue to play non-conference action at home Friday against Bradley at 6 p.m. in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
