CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Ball State women's tennis team fell to 2-2 on the season after suffering a 4-0 setback to Xavier Friday night.
"Xavier is a great program and definitely a championship caliber team," Ball State head women's tennis coach Max Norris said. "I didn't do a great job preparing us, and I need to have us more ready for doubles. We will be ready against Evansville."
The Cardinals trailed the Musketeers 1-0 after doubles play. Bethany Moore and Courtney Wild fell 6-2 to Amina Ismail and Sydney Liggins at the No. 1 position. Toni Ormond and Rosalinda Calderon dropped a 6-3 decision to Alex Brinker and Cristina Di Lorenzo at the No. 2 spot for the point. Despite losing the doubles point, Courtney Earnest teammed up with Ashlyn Rang at No. 3 doubles and was leading the match 4-3 before the Musketeers claimed the point.
Xavier clinched the match after winning at the No.3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles positions all in straight sets. Wild, Earnest and Moore's matches at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 spots went unfinished.
The Ball State women's tennis team returns to the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center Sunday when it host Evansville at 1:30 p.m.
