T&F Headed To CMU For MAC Indoor Championships
February 25, 2015 | Track & Field
The two-day event begins at 10 a.m. Friday with action in the women's pentathlon. Field events for the women start at 1:30 p.m. Friday with the weight throw, while action on the track begins at 3 p.m. with the women's 60m hurdles. The top eight performers from each event will score based on a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scale.
In the third season of automatic qualifying standards, the Cardinals will send 12 individuals and a pair of relays to this season's league championship meet. Under the current format, each event is capped at 20 participants. If 20 student-athletes did not post automatic marks in an event, entrants are selected going down the conference's performance list.
The Cardinals are looking for a strong showing in 2015 after placing 12th among the 12 teams at last season's MAC Indoor Championships with 1.5 points. Based on this season's entry list, Ball State's student-athletes are projected to score 27 points this year.
Junior Christina Crawford (Belleville, Mich./Romulus) leads the Cardinals heading into the weekend, as she enters the championships ranked first in the long jump (6.08m), ninth in the 60m dash (7.68) and 20th in the 200m dash (25.50). Crawford's mark of 6.08m in the long jump set at last Friday's Ball State Open also ranks 35th nationally.
Senior Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) is also poised to score big for Ball State, ranking third in the pentathlon (3768 points), fourth in the high jump (1.76m) and 12th in the long jump (5.69m).
Ball State is also projected to score in the weight throw, with junior Marie Lumpkin (Losantville, Ind./Union) entering the meet ranked sixth in the conference after a career-best toss of 18.36m at last Friday's Ball State Open.
Sophomore Elizabeth Eversole (Mishawaka, Ind./Marian) enters the MAC Indoor Championships with some positive momentum as well, ranking 14th in the pole vault after clearing the bar at a school-record height of 3.77m last Friday.
