Baseball Team Picked to Win MAC West in Coaches Poll
February 11, 2015 | Baseball
Ball State's baseball team, which opens the season Friday vs. Kentucky at the Buffalo Wild Wings Battle @ the Beach in Wilmington, N.C., has been selected to win the Mid-American Conference West Division in the league's preseason poll.
The Cardinals received 67 total points, including eight first-place votes, in the poll conducted by the league's 12 head coaches.
"It is always good to be recognized by your peers as having a solid team,” Ball State head coach Rich Maloney said. “But the only poll that matters is the one at the end of year."
Central Michigan was selected second in the MAC West, while Kent State was chosen to win the East Division title and the MAC Tournament Championship.
Ball State tallied a 39-18 overall record and a 22-4 MAC mark in 2014. The Cardinals won the MAC Regular Season Championship and the MAC West Division a year ago. Ball State is ranked 31st in the nation in the Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll and received enough votes to be ranked 39th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason Poll.
