Johnny Watts Named MAC Golfer of the Week
November 09, 2015 | Men's Golf
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Fresh off his third-place finish in Hawaii, Ball State's Johnny Watts was selected Monday as the Mid-American Conference Men's Golfer of the Week.
Watts finished third out of 102 golfers at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic in Maui. The sophomore from Fishers, Ind., posted a career-best 54-hole score of 6-under par 207 (69-68-70). He was the only player in the field to post an under-par score in all three rounds, and he led all players with 15 birdies for the week.
Watts defeated nine of the 10 top-100 players competing at the tournament and finished just two strokes behind individual medalist Zach Healy of Georgia. The event featured six of the top 40 teams in the national rankings.
It was the fourth top-20 finish and second top-10 result this fall for Watts, last spring's MAC individual champion.
The Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic was the last of six team events on Ball State's fall schedule. The Cardinals will return to action Feb. 8-9, hosting the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play at Lake Jovita Country Club in Dade City, Fla.
