A Look at the Cardinals
• Ball State will play three games in three days this weekend in Eastern Kentucky's home tournament. After the event, the Cardinals will have played five games in the first 10 days of the season. They will play nine games in 23 days to start the year. Four of BSU's first five games are away from home, but seven of its final eight non-conference contests are in Muncie.
• Friday's game against Eastern Kentucky will be Ball State's second straight against an Ohio Valley Conference opponent. The Cardinals evened their record at 1-1 with a 73-56 victory Monday over Eastern Illinois. Ball State has not played EKU since 2008 or South Carolina State since 1993. The Cardinals played Longwood last season, winning 69-64 in Muncie.
Twin Double-Doubles
• Bo Calhoun (17 pts/12 rebs) and Sean Sellers (13 pts/10 rebs) both recorded double-doubles in Monday's win over Eastern Illinois. It was the first career double-double for Sellers, who set a career high with his 10 boards.
• It was the first time Ball State had two players with double-doubles in the same game since Feb. 23, 2013 at Southeast Missouri -- Matt Kamieniecki (12/14) and Chris Bond (11/11).
Creating Second Chances
• Bo Calhoun grabbed a career-high eight offensive rebounds in Monday's win over Eastern Illinois. The Cardinals had 18 offensive boards as a team.
• Calhoun's eight offensive rebounds were the most by a Ball State player since Majok Majok grabbed nine against Oakland City on Jan. 3, 2014. They were the most by a Cardinal against a Division I opponent since Aaron Adeoye had eight against Miami on Feb. 4, 2012.
Big-Time Bench Production
• Of Ball State's 127 points this season, 54 of them (42.5 percent) have come from the bench.
• The Cardinals' bench outscored Bradley's 18-13 in the season opener and Eastern Illinois' 36-8 in the second game of the season.
• Bo Calhoun (17 points) and Francis Kiapway (12) both went for double figures off the bench in the Eastern Illinois game.
Defensive Success
• Ball State placed a heavy emphasis on its defense during the preseason and its summer Bahamas practices.
• The work is paying off so far as the Cardinals have held both of their opponents below 33 percent shooting from the field and 28 percent from 3-point range.
Calhoun Keeps Rolling
• Bo Calhoun leads Ball State in scoring (12.5 ppg) and rebounding (10.5 rpg), continuing a trend that started during the second half of last season.
• Over the final 15 contests last year, Calhoun led the team in points (13.4) and rebounds (7.3) per game. In the first 15 games, he averaged 5.8 points and 4.6 rebounds.
• Over his past 17 games, he has scored in double figures 14 times and posted four double-doubles.
