Pete Lembo Press Conference - UMass Week
October 27, 2015 | Football
Recapping last weekend's game against Central Michigan …
I'm proud of the effort. We challenged [the players] all week to bring great energy and to understand that that would make a difference. That was part of what we needed going into this game and every game and they really did respond to that.
I have to continue to do a better job of looking at everything and trying to put these guys in the best possible position I can to be successful. That includes our freshman quarterback and trying to do everything we can to help him as he continues to grow week in and week out.
On the upcoming game against UMass …
They are going to force you to defend the run by the types of guys they put on the field and the types of formations that they are running. They also do an excellent job with their play-action pass game and getting the ball down the field. … Their defense is a little different in each game. They give you a lot to prepare for.
On facing lots of pressure from opposing defenses …
We have seen an awful lot of pressure for a few reasons. One reason -- a freshman quarterback. Recent opponents have not been hesitant to throw a lot at him. The second part is to outnumber us in the run box to make it much more difficult to gain yards on the ground.
On former player Willie Snead's success with the New Orleans Saints …
I am very, very proud of Willie. You are never going to meet a more passionate, determined guy. Obviously last year, he bounced around a little bit and there was some question about what his future might be. He certainly came into this year without any guarantees, but will power combined with skill and great focus and now here he is, not just making the team but playing a lot and having a lot of success. He hasn't forgotten about us. He comes back and stays connected with the guys here.
