Men?s Golf Seventh after Day 1 at Crooked Stick

CARMEL, Ind. -- The Ball State men's golf team finds itself in seventh place through 36 holes at the Crooked Stick Intercollegiate.
The Cardinals posted a score of 607 (304-303) for Monday's opening two rounds at Crooked Stick Golf Club. Johnny Watts is the team's top player in a tie for 11th.
Top-ranked Illinois leads the 12-team field at 576 (Even) through two rounds. The next three teams on the leaderboard -- Purdue (585), Kentucky (590) and Duke (591) -- are also among the top 30 in the national rankings.
Kentucky's Tyler McDaniel built a monster lead on the individual leaderboard with back-to-back rounds of 67. He will enter the final day at 10 under par, eight shots clear of the field.
Watts is tied for 11th with a score of 3-over par 147 (70-77). He was the hottest player on the course to start the day, playing his first seven holes in 5 under.
James Blackwell, Michael VanDeventer and Michael Makris are next on the leaderboard for Ball State, all in a tie for 29th. Blackwell (83-71) bounced back from a tough opening 18 holes to post Ball State's best second round. Makris carded consecutive rounds of 77, while VanDeventer went 76-78.
The final round will be played Tuesday with live scoring at golfstat.com. Tee times begin at 9 a.m., and the Cardinals will start their round on the back nine.
