NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- The Ball State women's golf team is just three strokes off the lead through 36 holes at The Preview.
The Cardinals did not count a score higher than 77 in two rounds Sunday at Purgatory Golf Club. With a total of 601 (305-296), Ball State trails only Eastern Michigan (598), Toledo (599) and Akron (599) in the 13-team field.
Four Ball State players are among the top 20 on the leaderboard, led by freshman Sydney Anderson in a tie for fourth at 4-over par 148 (76-72). Allison Lindley is tied for 10th at 150 (77-73), followed closely by Kelsey Sear in a tie for 15th at 151 (76-75) and Morgan Nadaline in a tie for 18th at 152 (76-76).
Akron's Frida Fougberg built a five-stroke lead in the individual race Sunday at 3-under par 141.
Ball State's second-round score of 296 was its lowest of the season and matched the lowest of the day for any team in the tournament.
The Cardinals will look to carry that strong play over into Monday's final round. Play will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start, and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Since its inception, The Preview has been played at the site of the year's Mid-American Conference Championships. Eastern Michigan is the host for this week's tournament and for next spring's championship event at Purgatory.
