Track & Field Set For Saturday's BG Opener

MUNCIE, Ind. - - With winter break behind it, the Ball State indoor track & field team returns to action Saturday when it travels to Bowling Green State University's Perry Field House for the 2015 BG Opener.
Action in the meet gets underway at 11:30 a.m. beginning with field events. Track events are slated to being at 1 p.m. with the 5000m run. The final event of the day is the 4x400m relay which is scheduled for 3:40 p.m.
In addition to the Cardinals and host Falcons, Miami (OH), Toledo, Western Michigan and IPFW are slated to compete in the event.
Ball State opened the 2014-15 indoor campaign Dec. 6 at the Jerry England Alumni Open hosted by the University of Indianapolis at the Athletics Recreational Center. The Cardinals won eight of the non-scored meet's 16 events, with junior Christina Crawford (Belleville, Mich./Romulus) earning three event wins.
Crawford turned in a pair of the career-best efforts in winning the 60m dash (7.70) and 200m dash (26.28). Crawford was also able to defend her event title in the long jump with a winning leap of 5.76m / 18'-10.75”.
Another of Ball State's top performances came from senior Hannah Ciasto-Poor (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) who defended her event title in the pole vault by clearing a career-best height of 3.64m / 11'-11.25”. The mark is just 0.01m / 0.75” shy of the school record of 3.65m / 12'-0” set by Lauren McNichols in 2008.

- Junior Christina Crawford and sophomore Makelle Skelton (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) enter the week ranked first (5.76m) and second (5.75m), respectively, in the Mid-American Conference rankings in the long jump. Crawford also ranks fourth in the 60m dash (7.70) and 11th in the 200m dash (25.88#)
- Junior Marie Lumpkin (Losantville, Ind./Union) enters the week ranked first in the MAC rankings in the weight throw thanks to her toss of 17.09m at the Jerry England Alumni Opener.
- Ball State's student-athletes logged 13 career-best performances in the opening meet of the season.
