Swim & Dive To Take On IUPUI And Xavier Friday Night

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State women's swimming and diving team will travel to Indianapolis, Ind. with the men's swim and dive team this Friday to compete against IUPUI and Xavier. The event begins at 6 p.m. in the IUPUI Natatorium.
Friday's competition marks the first action for Ball State since the co-ed Eastern Michigan Invitational held Dec. 5 and 6. The lady Cardinals finished fourth of six teams in attendance with a final team score of 643.5, while the Ball State men's team finished third of five teams with a score of 562.
The women's swim and dive team set 53 new season best times in individual events, along with four new relay season bests. Among those with new season best records set was senior Carlena Magley, who earned third in the 100 free with a 50.72 time, and fifth in the 50 free at 23.82. Overall she set three new season bests in individual events, two of which rank top on the team. Magley rounded out her success with two season best times in the 400 free (3:28.15) and 800 free (7:41.08) relays as well.
Senior Jordan VanWinkle recorded three relay year's top times in the 400 free (3:28.15), 800 free (7:41.08) and 400 medley (3:58.67) relays in addition to a second and third place finish in individual events throughout the two day event. Along with Magley, VanWinkle set three season bests in individual events, two of which rank top on the team, including her second place finish in the 1650 free (17:14.44) and fourth place finish in the 200 free (1:52.36).
Freshman Amanda Kedzierski found her years top times in three events, including the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM. With her third place finish overall in the 100 breast, Kedzierski set the Cardinals top time of the year in the event at 1:04.00. She also leads the team in the 200 breast with a 2:20.01 finish and rounded out her weekend with a solid 2:09.96 time in the 200 IM.
Fellow freshman Jenna Zitkus topped off the Cardinals top-three finishes with her 58.05 finish in the 100 back to finish third overall in the Invite, but also to set the team's season best in the event.
Most recently, the IUPUI women's swim and dive team finished first of a 10-team field in their home House of Champions meet when they tallied a score of 1,622, with Green Bay trailing by 184 points. Since then, the Jaguars had multiple swimmers compete at the U.S. Short Course Nationals, including Jennifer Oleksiak, Madeline Bradford and Alexis Bullard, among the men's team Lennart Kuester, Tony Carrol, Aaron Brysch and Adam Ferguson.
Xavier's latest action came on Nov. 23 when they competed in the Cleveland State Magnus Invitational, where the women's team took a third place finish with 922 points, behind Duquesne and Akron. The Musketeer's took third place and set a new program record in the 400 freestyle relay by the combination of Molly Kroeger, Paxtyn Drew, Carolyn Stewart and Maddie Day with a time of 3:29.29, just breaking the school record of 3:29.30.
Both Stewart and Drew were able to take part in the AT&T Winter Nationals over the break, competing in the 100 backstroke, an event in which they hold the no. 1 and 2 times in Xavier history. Overall, Stewart finished in 76th (56.64) while Drew finished 93rd (57.11).
Looking ahead, the Ball State women's swim and dive team will continue action Friday, Jan. 16 when they travel to Ypsilanti, Mich. to compete against Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan at 6 p.m.
