Walsh Named Defensive Player of the Week

MUNCIE, Ind. – After a home-opening weekend of action at Worthen Arena, freshman Matt Walsh has been named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive Player of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Ball State middle attack Walsh turned in a weekend total of 15 blocks, 13 kills, four digs, and 22.5 points. The Chicago, Ill. native also posted a .773 attack percentage throughout the first weekend of home play, where the Cardinals defeated then-No. 10 Penn State 3-2 and Saint Francis 3-1.
With the weekend in the books, Walsh tallies a 2015 season total of 22 kills on 30 attempts for a .667 attack percentage, with four digs and two solo blocks for a combined 21 blocks.
Walsh was also named to Off the Block blog's National Freshman of the Week after his weekend performance. The Cardinals are currently ranked for the first time in the 2015 season at No. 14 after improving their undefeated record to 4-0.
The Ball State men's volleyball team will continue with road action when they travel to Boston, Mass. on Friday, Jan. 23, when it takes on Harvard at 7 p.m., followed by Sacred Heart on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. in Fairfield, Conn.
