Clouser Still Leads, Men?s Golf Fourth at ND Event

BRIDGMAN, Mich. -- McCormick Clouser maintained a share of the lead and the Ball State men's golf team moved up one spot Monday at the Fighting Irish Golf Classic.
The Cardinals fired a team score of 293 for the second day in a row, this time at Lost Dunes Golf Club. At 586 (+18) through two rounds, Ball State is in fourth place as the action heads back to Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course for Tuesday's final 18 holes.
Michigan State (+4) jumped up into the lead with an even-par team round Monday. Long Beach State (+11) is second, and the next six teams on the leaderboard are separated by only seven shots.
Clouser backed up his opening 66 with a 1-over par round of 72. The senior from Bluffton, Ind., is 4 under through two rounds and tied for the lead with Notre Dame's Cory Sciupider. Brendan Peel of Loyola (Md.) and Charlie Netzel of Michigan State are both two shots back.
Ball State also counted a pair of 73s from Johnny Watts and Michael VanDeventer along with a 75 from Zach Yinger in Monday's round. Yinger tied for the most birdies in the field in round two with seven.
Watts and VanDeventer matched each other shot for shot for the second straight day and are tied for 26th at 8 over par as the next Cardinals on the leaderboard after Clouser.
Ball State will tee off in the final round Tuesday at 8:30 a.m., trying to continue its climb up the leaderboard. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
