Cardinals Celebrating Seniors, Youth Soccer Saturday
September 18, 2014 | Soccer
After nearly three weeks in between home games, the Ball State soccer team will be back at the Briner Sports Complex as part of an action-filled Saturday.
The Cardinals (3-1-2) host Jacksonville State (4-4-0) at 2 p.m. in a game that will serve as the team's Senior Day. Ball State will also be celebrating Youth Soccer Month with a post-game autograph signing and clinic for children ages 12 and younger.
In addition, Ball State Sports Link will be televising the game throughout the state on Comcast Indiana 81. The broadcast will also be streamed on ballstatesports.com.
Ball State is riding a three-game unbeaten streak and will be playing its final tuneup before Mid-American Conference play begins. The Cardinals are coming off a win over Delaware and a draw against Navy last weekend.
Sophomore Leah Mattingly was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Cardinals limit Delaware and Navy to a combined one goal in 200 minutes of action. She also scored the decisive goal on a penalty kick in the win over the Blue Hens.
Kalynn Flanagan recorded the Ball State goal Sunday against Navy, becoming the seventh different Cardinal to score a goal through the first six games this season.
Jacksonville State split its games last weekend with a loss at Troy and a win at Alabama State. The Gamecocks will be making their second visit to Muncie. The teams opened the 2001 season against each other with Ball State posting a 1-0 win.
Before the game, the Cardinals will recognize their six seniors: Maggie Cox, Victoria Jacobs, Lindsay Kempf, Jasmine Moses, Nicole Pembleton and Cailey Starck.
